SAFE MEDICINE DISPOSAL

These studies, showing that 80% of U.S. waterways tested by USGS were found to have traces of common pharmaceutical drugs, are of major concern. In other studies it has been found that chemicals ( which include medicines - of course ) in very low concentrations can be treated in living organisms as a hormone or other chemical indicators normally in the body. Then they are called disruptors.

The normal sewage disposal processing does not remove such materials from the water. That is why safe disposal it so important.

Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy , 570 Munras Ave, Monterey, CA 93940, is the closest place that takes medicines for safe disposal ( 831-333-0751, M-Fri: 9-8pm, Sat-Sun: 10-6pm ).

To learn more about what is being done look at the website of the Teleosis Institute "Health Professionals in Service of the Global Environment". Here is another interesting page on that website . That page describes what few items are not in the list of what they can take.

Medicines to be disposed of need to be in the original bottle, and the following form must be filled out describing what is to be disposed of.
